Newport Harbor LBC was honored to have the Holmby Park LBC members visit on Saturday, August 17th. Bowlers who regularly social bowl were exposed to friendly competition between the two clubs. Tournament bowlers who usually do not participate in social bowling were reminded of the joy and camaraderie of social bowling. Novice bowlers, who had yet to bowl against other clubs, had a taste of club vs club bowling. It was a wonderful experience for all who took part in this spectacular day of bowling, socializing, eating, and making friends with others who share the love of Lawn Bowling.
Tom Seres, who promotes these visitations, is to be complemented. A special thanks goes out to the Holmby and Newport members who helped to set up the rinks, the Newport Members who served the food, and those who did the cleanup.
Newport Harbor had a clean sweep of the 1st place finishers in both the Cary and the Macdonald flights in Long Beach. Once again, huge thanks go out to the hospitality at Long Beach for providing some great food throughout the competition.
Congratulations to Newport Harbor members: Charlie Herbert & Jim Wysopal, Tad Dutch & Bill Buchanan for bringing home the medals.
San Diego Lawn Bowling Club and Len Wasserman hosted their annual Triples and Pairs events this past weekend and while Newport didn't take any top spots on the A green in either event, the Cohens did quite well both days on the B green - finshing 2nd in the Triples and 1st in the Pairs.
(Pretty sure that means that it's A-green for you guys next near!)
Congrats to Lou and Shelley!
Huge thanks to the hospitality team at San Diego who did a fantastic job of providing breakfast lunch and dinner!

GREAT BIG WELCOME TO NEWER MEMBERS Paul Gadbut, Adrian Throup & Robert Werner for joining Saturday morning bowls on July 27 and for participating in BRAT DAY after bowling. 36 people participated at Saturday morning bowls and 29 people came to enjoy brats, chips, beer/wine & ice cream at NHLBC Brat Day. It was a nice, relaxed atmosphere for members!!

It takes a lot for me to feel "all bowled out" ... but that's exactly how I'm feeling after running two major events over this past long holiday weekend. And what a wonderful long weekend of bowls it was.
It started on Thursday July 4 with 32 bowlers (16 pairs) casually competing in two 10-end games. By lunchtime Dave Breedon and Mike Allen made it known they were #1. Our next "holiday bowls" event will be on Labor Day (Monday September 2).
And it concluded on Sunday July 7 with one of our largest club tournaments ever. 14 teams of triples (42 bowlers) - including 12 novices; some of which had never competed in a tournament before - Adrian Throupe, Brad Warick and Michael Adamson. Everything about the day was fantastic: from the breakfast burritos made with love (thank you Tori, Bill, Julie and Brian), to the fact that everyone showed up (thank you!), to watching the US Women win the World Cup, to the appearance of Cynthia Nolan to cheer us on. It's about everything a tournament director could hope for. And in the end the best bowler and best team won. Congrats to Brian Stewart, Jim Olsen and Robert Morten - the only team to win all 4 of their games. Second place went to: Dean Warmington, Don Stewart and Mike Allen. Third place went to: Fred Robles, Norma Goodhart and Brad Warick. Thank you to everyone who made the day special!
Our next club tournament is on Sunday August 18. Please sign up at the club. The website with the updated "Bowler of the Year" standings will be updated this week (I promise Bill).

The 2019 Asia Pacific Championships were held at Helensvale, Musgrave Hill and Broadbeach Bowls Clubs in Australia. The USA men’s team qualified in all 4 events at the competition which means we will be able to send bowlers in all 4 events to World Bowls next year! Congratulations to Neil Furman, Loren Dion, Aaron Zangl, Bill Brault, Scott Roberts and their manager is Phil Luth.
The women’s team came so close! But, unfortunately, they came in 7th place and did not qualify for Worlds Bowl 2020. We are very proud of our team: Anne Nunes, Janice Bell, Alice Birkinshaw, Melanie Vizenor, and Alexis Vanden-Bos and their manager Jackie Tucker.
Congratulations to everyone and thank you for representing the United States as well as you have.
