The format of the event was as follows:
- All bowlers, through blind draw, play 1 match. Winners move into the Murray Bracket and losers go to the Allison Bracket.
While that seems simple enough, due to the late addition of two players, Bye's needed to be issued and, unlike past years, there was no consolation bracket. This resulted in the unfortunate situation where, if a player won their first match but lost their second, their tournament was over. Whereas, if someone lost their first match, then won their second, they continued playing.
This year's Murray champion was Charlie Herbert and, once again, Newport sent a strong group of representatives.
Lou Cohen finished 4th on the Allison Flight (after playing 1 more match than anyone else in the tournament due to the fact that he did not receive a Bye). So Lou get's the unofficial Iron Man prize as far as this blog is concerned. Phil Dunn finished 3rd in the Allison flight.
Other Newport Players:
Bill Brault (4th in the Murray), Scott Roberts, Andrew Dufresne, Tad Dutch, Mike Ruggles, Bill Buchanan, Fred Robles, Randy Hatfield, Bruce Williams, Robert Alessi, Ron Gill, Matt Bauchiero, Steve Monfre, and Keno Shaw.
