Great turnout for the 2017 Jingle Bowls! I've received multiple messages asking for a special thanks to go to Sheila Conti and Gary Barnes for putting on a terrific breakfast! Thanks to all who came out.
The Southwest Division Ladies' Holiday Luncheon took place at Laguna Woods on Wednesday, December 20th.
The event had a very nice turnout and also included some lovely entertainment by Ginger Hatfield (and her husband Randy who accompanied her for a couple standout numbers.
On Saturday, December 9th we held our annual AGM. In all, we had approximately 70 members in attendance and, following the State of the Club reports for the 2017 Officers, elected our new board for 2018.

Thank you to last year's Board for working hard to keep the Newport Harbor Lawn Bowling Club one of the most-successful in the entire country!
On Sunday, December 10th, about 50 of our fellow club members gathered at the Costa Mesa Country Club for a lovely evening of good cheer, great company, and some fun holiday games. A big thank you from all who attended to Jim Reach for sharing some family traditions. Another huge thank you goes out to the organizers for the event, our hosts Bob and Emily Carpenter, and everyone to lent a hand.
It was also great to see dear friends Joan and Bob Morris looking well and also lovely to see Darlyne Hilliard amongst her many NHLBC friends.
Lastly, we had a very touching moment as the party was on the evening of Carol and Richard Smith's 40th wedding anniversary and Carol came out to thank everyone for their friendship and to wish a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.
Following the Annual Meeting, Newport Harbor Winter League teams played off against one another in both Silver and Gold tiers. Big thanks to Scott Roberts for helping to accommodate the scheduling around the AGM.
Check out the standings after week two on the Winter League Homepage.
A caravan of Newport Harbor Bowlers traveled out to Sun City, AZ to compete in two pairs events: The Bill Weaver Men's Pairs and the Cy Stephan Women's Pairs tournaments.
Charlie Herbert and Brian Stewart brought home the win in style (seriously, nice sweatshirts!).
Other Newporters who took part were: Brian Mulvaney, Keith "Pants" McCabe, Jimmer Wysopal, Kirby Greenlee, and Ron Gill. Maryna Hyland took part in the Cy Stephan pairs tournament.
Even though our local tournament season (and grass) are going dormant this time of year, the competition is still ongoing. This past Saturday, December 2nd, Winter League kicked off around the area including at Newport where local Silver and Gold teams hosted groups from Santa Ana, Long Beach, and the Groves. Follow along with the weekly standings here and be sure to support your fellow Newport players and teams.
For those who don't know, Winter League is a terrific way to learn about competitive Bowls in Silver League or, for those more-experienced players, test your skills against the area's best players in the Gold League. Playing every Saturday for the next 8 weeks, and employing a fun scoring system designed to keep matches competitive throughout, players have opportunities to compete in pairs, triples, and singles play.
Check out the bulletin board posted outside the club for a list of our Newport Harbor teams and visit the Winter League Website to see the rules and the schedule.
Fellow Newport Harbor Winter League Teams: Send in photos of your teams, players-in-action, and fun details from the matches and I'll include in the weekly Blog.
