A Beautiful Southern California Day
Sixty five people, a record, phoned in to play on Saturday for the morning social bowling. It was a beautiful day and both greens were full, one green with triples and one green with pairs. This is the most popular day for bowling and Emily and Bob Carpenter work hard at making it a happy day for everyone. And the weather helped although some of us are hoping for cooler days as winter approaches, as long as the sun shines and the sky stays blue the way it did today.
There is pairs bowling this Thursday morning (Thanksgiving).
Bowling at 9am, call in by 8:40am.
Announcing the winner of the Bowler of the Year Award
Bob Carpenter is the winner of the Bowler of the Year Award for 2015. He joined the club in 2008 and is known to be a very serious bowler who works hard at his bowling skills. He and his wife, Emily, are active social bowlers and Bob also participates in competitive bowling. He and Emily run the Saturday morning social bowls. It is usually the most popular event of the week, often taking up both greens for the morning. Bob has served as Vice President on the board since 2012 and has been nominated for the position of President for 2016. Among the many improvements he has dealt with while on the board, he set up a new member packet to be given to each new member to ease their way into active participation in the club.
The Bowler of the Year award was set up last year by Phil Luth. There were eight tournaments this year and the winner is the person who gets the most points from both participation and where they place in the event.
Section Play Format
The Section Play tournament is just that, two sections. It is a pair’s tournament and teams are selected by a blind draw.
There are six start times, 9 am, 10 am, 11am, Noon, 1 pm & 2 pm. Each match lasts 50 minutes. The object of the tournament is to play as many ends, and get as many points possible in each of the 50 minute time limit matches.
Section one plays at 9 am, 11 am & 1 pm. Section two plays at 10 am, Noon & 2 pm. Section one and section two play on the same rinks. For example team one in section one plays on rink 3, so team one in section two plays on rink 3.
This is an unlimited points scoring system. Teams with three wins will be looked at first for the tournament winners. If there are no three game winners, then the two game winning teams will be used to decide the winners. In the event of a tie, points against will be the first tie breaker.
This tournament promotes speed of play and team building.
