Newport Harbor’s bowlers have been busy, now that competition season is back in swing.
 
On March 26th, Brian Stewart and Charlie Herbert  (with Rodger Green) won the Southern Cal Triples in San Diego. Mike Ruggles and Matt Baucherio (along with Neil Furman) came in 4th.
 
In the April 1st Southwest Women’s Division Nov/Vet triples, Norma Goodhart’s team came in second. Maryna Hyland’s team came in third.

Dinner Club

The dinner club enjoyed a nice evening out at the Oak Grill Restaurant in the Island Hotel. Food was delicious and as always, conversation & visiting wonderful. Did you know that locals get a 30% discount off food for dinner? (call for days and times)

St. Patrick's Day Club Tournament

1st Place: Adrian Williams & Pashi Vakiva
30 members dressed in green participated in NHLBC's St. Patrick's Day Mixed Doubles Tournament Sunday. A competitive day of play comprised of two 12-end games in the morning and one game after lunch. The luck of the Irish was with these winners:
  • 1st Place: Adrian Williams & Pashi Vakiva
  • 2nd Place:Mike Ruggles & Steve Peterson
  • 3rd Place: Ron Gill & Don Stewart
  • 4th Place: Ted Farfaglia & Walter Benvenuto (not pictured)

A huge thanks to the following members for organizing and staging hospitality:
Emily Carpenter, Norma Goodhart, Jan Garrett, Diana Wenzel and Susan Weaver.

PictureDoreen and Linda- winners in SWWD Australian Pairs
SWWD Australian Pairs took place in Santa Ana on Saturday, March 11. Among the ladies playing in this tournament were club members Sheila Conti, Anne Nunes, Rita Greenberg, Debby Gaal, Maryna Hyland, Pashi Vakiva, Shelley Cohen, Diana Wenzel, Jan Hargraves, Linda Jahraus and Doreen Mayo. Doreen Mayo and Linda Jahraus were the winners out of 16 teams.

Charlie and Brian came 1st and 2nd in the Murray division.
The Murray-Allison Singles tournament took place on Sat and Sun, March 11 and 12 at Riverside LBC. NHLBC members taking part in the competition were Charlie Herbert, Mark Ruggles, Robert Alessi, Bruce Williams, Matt Bauchiero, Jim Hempe, Lou Cohen, Jim Olsen, Doug Lofstrom, Steve Peterson and Brian Stewart. Charlie Herbert came first and Brian Stewart came second in the Murray section.

​World Cup Indoor Singles
This prestigious international singles tournament will be held on March 14-22 in Warilla, NSW, Australia. The U.S. will be represented by club member Scott Roberts. He won the bronze medal last year. The Vet-Novice, Mix or Match Triples, a Southwest Women’s Division event, was played at Santa Anita on Saturday, March 4th. Mike Ruggles and Debby Gaal came first on Green 2 with their partner, Robert Busciglio from Long Beach LBC. Other members of the club competing in the tournament were Bruce Williams, Jim Olsen, Norma Goodhart, Ben Shaw, Steve Peterson, Diana Wenzel, Lou Cohen, Tom Taylor, Tad Dutch, Sheila Conti, Scott and Linda Roberts, Ron Gill, Pashi Vakiva and Keith McCabe.
