Forty Four club bowlers met on a mild Saturday to compete in the St. Patrick’s day mix and match pairs tournament. After the dust had settled Bruce Williams and Ben Shaw emerged as the winners. Second place went to Jan Hargraves and Steve Peterson. Third place was occupied by Paula Bogenreif and Ron Gill, while fourth place went to Maryna Hyland and Chris Gaal. Bringing up the rear, in fifth, was Don Stewart and Pashi Vakiva. This tournament counts towards Bowler of the Year.
This weekend Riverside played host to the two-day Murray-Allison men's singles event. It was the first Division point event of 2016 and brought out a very good draw of 36 bowlers; including 8 of our own: Charlie Herbert, Doug Lofstrom, Lou Cohen, Jim Hempe, Ivan Hyland, Tom Taylor, Mike Ruggles and our newest rookie sensation Jim Olson - who drew an ominous first game opponent in Bill Brault and lost an 18-15 heartbreaker (I'll spare you the gory details ... but he almost won with his final bowl).
3 of our players advanced to the Sunday draw: Charlie, Doug and Mike; with Charlie finishing 3rd in the Murray bracket (first flight) and Mike finishing second in the Challenger bracket (3rd flight). Congrats!
The next Division Men's point event is the So Cal Triples in San Diego over the weekend of April 16-17. This event also is open to all Division players and draws a large field of competitive players. We'll keep you updated on which of ours are participating.
Southwest Women’s division also had a tournament on Sat, March 19th at Santa Ana.
